Mature suburb, mature problems

Westville is established, leafy and largely built out, and its tree cover is exactly what causes most of the painting problems we are called to. Heavy canopy keeps walls permanently shaded, elevations never fully dry between rains, and the result is persistent mould and algae growth — usually on the south and south-east faces of the house.

Painting over that is pointless. The growth comes straight back through the new coating within a season. It has to be killed and removed, the surface has to be properly dry, and the system has to include a fungicidal wash and an appropriate primer.

Diagnose before you decorate

On an older Westville home, damp is frequently the real story and paint is the symptom. We are experienced in leak detection and waterproofing, and if we think the problem is a failed detail rather than a coating we will say so — even when that makes the quotation less attractive. Repainting over active damp is money wasted twice.
